Liposculpture FAQ's

Author: Rodney Davis, Physician Assistant, Director of Surgery

Liposculpture:

Liposuction is the most commonly performed cosmetic surgery in the United States. This technique is used to reshape the body by permanently removing localized fat deposits. Liposuction is popular with both men and women, and can be performed on many different parts of the body successfully.

Initial Consultation:

During the consultation, we will discuss the changes that you would like to make in your appearance. We will explain the different options available to you, the procedure itself, its risks and limitations, and the costs.

How much pain is there?

The procedure is done under local anesthesia which minimizes the patient’s discomfort and maximizes safety.

What is the recovery period like?

Most of the bruising and swelling should subside within three weeks. To speed the healing process and to reduce the likelihood of post-operative complications, our staff will advice you to begin light activity as soon as possible. You should be able to return to work within a one or two days if your work is fairly sedentary. You should avoid strenuous activities for one to two weeks as your body heals, but within two to six weeks you should be able to resume all normal activities. It’s important to continue wearing the compression garment, which should be easily hidden under your clothing, unless instructed to do otherwise by our staff.

What can I expect after surgery?

For a day or two, you can expect to feel tired, as though your body has been through a workout – and it has! The areas treated will be stiff and sore, and you may experience some discomfort, burning, swelling, bruising or temporary numbness. The tumescent solution often provides many hours of pain free comfort, and you will be provided with medication to relieve any residual discomfort following your procedure.
You will be wearing a compression garment around the areas treated. This decreases swelling, helps mold the new shape, and provides support and comfort. Garments may be removed 24 hours after your procedures s you may take a shower. A compression garment is generally worn 24/7 for the first week. The garment is often worn intermittently for an additional four weeks.

How long do the results last?

The fat cells are permanently removed by liposculture, so you will not regain weight in that area. It is important to note, however, that liposuction does not guarantee that you won’t gain weight or accumulate fat deposits in other areas of your body.

Are You a Good Candidate for Tumescent Lipo?

Tumescent anesthesia liposuction can be of great benefit for most people who have fatty deposits in areas of their bodies that have not responded well to dieting and exercise. However, the best candidates for tumescent liposuction are active, healthy persons of average weight and good skin tone, and who have never had a lipo procedure to the same body part. Overweight individuals can also benefit from tumescent liposuction, especially if they are in the process of exercising and losing weight. The tumescent liposuction technique should be judiciously used in the morbidly obese. Ideal patients have committed to healthier habits and do not consider liposuction to be a substitute for exercising. Your liposuction specialist should listen to your goals of the treatment to better ascertain whether you have realistic expectations for what liposuction can and cannot do. It is best that liposuction patients have no significant medical problems. Age by itself is not a significant factor in tumescent liposuction.

The best way to know if you are a good candidate for tumescent lipo is to schedule a consultation with a tumescent liposuction specialist.

Liposuction San Diego

At Pacific Liposculpture, we understand that many of us, no matter how much we diet and work out, are still unable to change our shape. In the past, many have turned to traditional liposuction or extremely invasive procedures like an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) in order to reshape different problem areas. Now there's a better, safer, scar-free way at Pacific Liposculpture.

Pacific Liposculpture’s body contouring procedures achieve amazing results in a spa-like outpatient setting. Our highly trained experts use instruments so tiny that only local anesthetic is necessary and no stitching is required! Our goal is for you to remain comfortable and awake during your procedure, recover faster afterward, with minimal scarring, firmer, tighter skin, and smoother overall results. Most of our patients are even able to drive themselves home after their procedure...
