Marine Makes Tape After Lipo

Rod Davis, PA-C and Director of Surgery at Pacific Lipo, preps a Marine for the liposculpture (lipo) procedure.  This Marine has a tape test that he needs to pass later in the week and has been unable to lose the weight with diet and exercise. The patient is looking for immediate and permanent inch loss that will save his career with the Marine Corps. Davis targets this patient's love handles, upper and lower abdomen to remove inches of fat and get him within measurements.

Pacific Lipo was pleased to hear that this Marine did in fact pass his measurements and his results continued to improve over time.  The video above shows him immediately after his procedure and his progress at 2 months.

Rod Davis, PA-C - Making People Feel Comfortable in Their Own Skin

What a wonderful experience and results that my husband Gary and I have had at Pacific Liposculpture.  We had lost quite a bit of weight on our own, however could not get rid of the extra weight that we still carried around our mid-sections, and for me the “saddle bags”.  That’s where Rod Davis and his wonderful team came in.  The reviews spoke for themselves, so my main question was “How much is it going to hurt?”.  As it turned out, the procedure felt “pinchy” a few times, but not painful.  Rod kept me at ease the entire time.  I do not tolerate pain well at all, so this is saying a lot.  Rod, Wendy, Cristina, Letty, Stefani and Jasmine are the utmost professionals!  We never once felt uncomfortable or hesitant to ask questions.  During our procedures, Rod sculpted and contoured our upper and lower abs, love handles and flanks (and hips for me).  I later had the procedure on my inner and outer thighs.   We are very pleased with the results!  We had made the decision to come to Pacific Lipo to improve for ourselves. The compliments from others (well over a year later) are very nice to hear too though.  Another nice bonus is easily being able to put on a piece of clothing or belt that never fit (but I had kept anyway) and they look really nice now.  Rod gave us the ability to feel comfortable in bathing suits.  I never thought that I would wear a two piece again. Going in for follow up appointments is like visiting with friends.  That’s how the team at Pacific Lipo make us feel.  Thank you again!

Want your Pacific Lipo testimonial to be featured on our website?

Just simply fill out our Patient Testimonials form or email us at info@pacificlipo.com with your testimonial and photos of you before and after the procedure.

“I just want to thank you for giving me my confidence back! I’ve been self conscious about my cheeks for over 8 years. After having my son, it seemed like I couldn’t lose the weight no matter what I did, and even if I toned my body, my cheeks were still fat. I’m not even all the way healed yet, but I wanted to show you a couple pictures of the dramatic change. (before and after) This has helped my self esteem so much that it’s helped me and my husband’s love life. I couldn’t be happier. Thanks a million.”

Fat Behind Your Neck- Humpback - Buffalo Hump Lipo

The Buffalo Hump forms when fat accumulates just below the base of the neck on the upper back. This can lead to the appearance of bad posture or the "hunch back" look. The buffalo hump is a problem area that is often from genetics or medication that an individual may be taking. It is located in an area that makes it extremely difficult to lose on your own through diet and exercise. Liposculpture is a great option to permanently remove the fat from this area with minimal scarring.

Rod Davis, PA-C at Pacific Liposculpture in San Diego, California specializes in this technique and has performed over 15,000 procedures. He is considered an expert in his field.  Buffalo hump lipo will not only give you immediate results, but significantly improve your posture and appearance once this bulge of unwanted fat is permanently removed.

The Secret to Mastering a Real Push-Up

Trainer Tip from Fitness Magazine

Trainer and nutrition expert Harley Pasternak, a member of the Fitness advisory board, is the author of The Body Reset Diet.

Q: Will I ever be able to do real push-ups?

A: Yes, but not if you're only doing them on your knees.  Incline push-ups - with your body in plank position - are your secret weapon.  Use the plan below every other day; once you can do two to three sets of 10, graduate to the next phase.

Phase 1: Counter Push-Up
Find a waist-high surface, like a kitchen counter.  Position hands slightly wider than shoulders.  Step feet back two to three feet.  Contract abs and straighten spine.  Inhale, bend elbows and lower chest toward counter.  Exhale, straighten arms and return to start position.

Phase 2: Bench Push-Up
Find a surface that's about knee-high; do the same movement as above.

Phase 3: Knee Push-Up
Begin on hands and knees, palms flat on floor and below shoulders.  Slide knees backward as you press hips toward floor until you form a straight line.  Inhale, bend elbows and lower chest toward floor.  Exhale, straighten arms and return to start position, keeping stomach tight.

Phase 4: Full Push-Up
Go get 'em, Tiger!  Get into a plank position, with hands slightly wider than shoulders.  Lower body, keeping abs contracted, back flat and elbows tucked in close to body.  When chest nearly touches floor, pause, then exhale and push back up to start position.

The Best At-Home and Pro Tips to Rid Cellulite

"With these clever and effective ways to camouflage and combat unsightly dimples, get set for smoother skin ahead," says Melanie Rud Chadwick from Shape Magazine.

Got bumps? Take solace in the fact that you're not alone. A whooping 90% of us have cellulite, a genetic condition that affects women of all shapes and sizes, says LA-based dermatologist Howard Murad, M.D., author if The Cellulite Solution. While there's no permanent fix for cellulite, there are ways to improve it. Here, the best at-home and pro tips to rock a smoother rear view in a day, a week, or a month.

If you have...

A day

PRO TIP Opt for fillers. "Injectables that add volume to the face, like Radiesse, also works wonders for cellulite," says NYC derm Paul Jarrod Frank, M.D. "They fill in the puckers and make skin look more uniform." The procedure can be done in minutes, and you'll walk away with instant results that last up to a year.

HOME TRICK When you have less than 24 hours to get bikini-ready, hit the bottle - of body bronzer of self-tanner.  Dimpled areas are create shadows that are more noticeable on lighter skin, so darkening your tone will mask these shadowy spots and make you look smoother, says Victoria's Secret makeup artist Carolina Gonzalez.
A week

PRO TIP Consider endermologie, a noninvasive treatment that employs a machine to knead and suction dimpled areas. This breaks up fat pockets and stimulates lymphatic drainage.

HOME TRICK Give yourself regular rubdowns. "A firm massage will help separate clumps of fat cells so they lie more smoothly underneath the skin," says Bank. Apply a cellulite cream to trouble spots and massage vigorously. Just keep in mind that the benefits will be subtle - expect around a 10% improvement. Or, save yourself the elbow grease and try the Bliss FatGirlSlim Lean Machine, an electronic massager that also employs vacuum action to further boost circulation.

A week
PRO TIP Try Thermage. The noninvasive procedure uses radio frequency to stimulate collagen and tighten skin, which starts to looks firmer after about 4 weeks, says Frank.

HOME TRICK Take a holistic approach. First, start dry brushing daily. "The practice smooths skin by sloughing off dead cells and boosting circulation," says Murad. Use a firm-bristle brush like the Earth Therapeutics Bumpy Bristle Massage Brush on dry skin, moving from your knees to your waist to stimulate proper lymphatic drainage. Next, think about tweaking your diet and workout. The less water you retain, the less puffy cellulite will appear, so avoid bloat-inducers like alcohol and salt. At the gym, focus on reducing overall body fat by amping up cardio to burn excess calories. Though even thin woman can have cellulite, Bank says losing weight allows the fat cells to shrink slightly, which may minimize the orange-peel effect.

Which Method of Lipo Is Right For You?

There are several different techniques for achieving virtually the same results - despite all of the marketing claims.  So what do you need to know before choosing which option is best for you?  The following describes three major methods that every prospective patient should be away of before moving forward with liposuction.

Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction (UAL)

This method was originally considered an advancement in liposuction methods in the 1990's.  Vaser is one of the main manufacturers in this realm of UAL devices.  UAL uses cannulas which send ultrasound energy through the fatty tissues, thereby liquefying that fat tissue.  Most providers now agree that this method carries an increased risk of skin and tissue burns, permanent tissue damage, scarring, nerve damage, and localized fluid accumulation called seromas.  There is insufficient proof of the safety of UAL devices therefore the FDA has never approved the marketing and advertising of UAL devices to be specifically used for liposuction.

Power Assisted Liposuction

Power Assisted Liposuction or PAL is a form of liposuction that uses vibrating straw-like cannulas of varying sizes, to break up and remove fat cells.  This method allows the practitioner to use less force while suctioning out fatty deposits compared to manual liposuction.  The use of less physical force during the procedure is not only a more efficient way for the provider to remove fat, but may also lessen the amount of swelling to the tissues and minimize the degree of trauma to the incisions.

Laser Liposuction

Most advertising would suggest that laser manufacturers such as SmartLipo and its competitors have completely reinvented liposuction.  However, in reality all of the basic steps involved with traditional liposuction are usually performed with laser liposuction including the frequent sedation of the patients, the injection of tumescent fluid (numbing solution), as well as the suction of fat. With laser lipolysis there is always an additional step with involves burning of fat just before removal.  Initially, the laser was intended to be used without liposuction of fat.  'Melted' fat was to be resorbed by the body.  This has generally been shown to be ineffective.  Most liposuctionists now agree that fat must be removed after the burning.  Ironically, this is achieved in the EXACT same manner as would be performed without the laser.

Some known disadvantages of the laser are that the fat makes this a more invasive procedure.  Burning can lead to complications and permanent injuries to the skin and surrounding tissues.  This procedure can sometimes be more expensive and is frequently used by non-experts.

SmartLipo was the first laser FDA approved for this procedure, many other "fat melting" lasers are now on the market and many others are being developed. Other lasers include CoolLipo and LipoLite.  Proponents of laser assisted liposuction claim that lasers have the ability to emulsify fat and tighten skin. Reportedly, skin tightening occurs due to laser energy which breaks collagen bonds i the dermis stimulation new collagen to form.  This process is called neocollagenesis.

No certain brand of lipolysis laser at this point has been proven to be superior to any other.  In our opinion, it is actually the skill of the provider in proper tumescent liposuction technique that is the best predictor of outcome.

Less Than Perfect Lipo Results

There are many different reasons that someone may end up with less than perfect results from a lipo procedure. He or she may have looser skin or pre-existing stretch marks which is a sign that the desired amount of post-liposuction skin tightening may not be possible. Some people may have had prior surgeries with large amounts of scarring which could significantly limit the potential for smoothness after a lipo procedure. Some patients may not have followed important aftercare instructions or follow-up regularly with office visits/phone calls as instructed. Some patients do not continue to exercise or diet afterwards to ensure optimal results. As with any procedure in any office, results may vary.

Check out Pacific Lipo's gallery of before and after photos to get a better idea of how results do vary for patients with different body types, prior surgical scars, varying degrees of skin laxity, etc. Although results may vary, one can still appreciate the significant improvement that may be achieved when the procedure is performed by an experienced liposuction specialist. That being said, patients must keep in mind that not everyone will be completely thrilled with their results, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the technique used by the liposuctionist was poor. Sometimes our bodies don’t heal as nicely as we would all hope. The goal of any lipo procedure is to help every patient look much better but unfortunately not every patient will feel better despite all reasonable efforts.

Reshaping Flaws with Abdominal Liposculpture

Are you tired of exercising and dieting without seeing any changes to your shape? Nearly every fitness infomercial or magazine leads us to believe that we are only 90 days from the perfect body as long as we do a million perfect sit-ups and by eating minuscule portions of broiled flavorless chicken breast.

Your personal trainer would most likely prefer to see you sweating it out over the next 3 years, but that is not necessary for most people. Abdominal Liposculpture/Liposuction is a procedure that can be performed safely under local anesthesia while providing results that can be much more dramatic than exercise or dieting. At Pacific Liposculpture, we specialize in awake liposculpture procedures using micro-incisions through the skin.  These procedures provide great patient safety, minimal downtime, and dramatic results.

All before and after photos shown are of actual Pacific Lipo patients and each procedure was performed by Rod Davis, PA-C (Physician Assistant-Certified). Benefits of Juicing Kale

Juicing kale yields a beverage packed with nutritional value, and even a small serving -- a quarter cup -- offers all the mineral and vitamin content found in a much larger serving of whole kale. Although intact kale also has a place in your diet, juicing kale allows you to add lots of nutritional value to smoothies and juice blends, and drinking kale juice benefits your health.

Support for Energy Production
Fresh kale juice comes packed with nutrients your body needs to
produce energy. The many B-complex vitamins found in the juice work in combination to help you derive energy from nutrients. Iron and copper abundant in kale juice activate enzymes your cells use to generate fuel, and iron also helps deliver the oxygen your cells need to maintain cell metabolism.

Strong Bones and Teeth
Juicing kale also yields a beverage rich in vitamin C and calcium, two nutrients essential for bone health. Your body needs a constant supply of calcium from your diet to maintain bone density, and a low calcium intake increases bone loss as you age. Vitamin C strengthens your bones by supporting collagen production -- a process needed to keep your bones resistant to damage -- and helps you avoid the joint pain linked to vitamin C deficiency.

Visual Health
Incorporate kale juice into your diet to keep your eyesight sharp. The vitamin A in kale helps you see at night, and it plays a key role in your
ability to detect light. The juice also contains lutein and zeaxanthin, two nutrients that promote long-term eye health by filtering harmful light rays as they enter your eye, preventing those rays from reaching the sensitive tissues within your eyes.
